Celebrate the opening of our exhibition showcasing the Great Baddow Hoard with our free Iron Age Day at the museum and in Oaklands Park! The day will include living history stalls, archery, catapult and combat demonstrations.
We are proud of our Essex Iron Age and Roman historical connections, and on Saturday 18 July, we will be welcoming the award winning re-enactment society, Britannia, who were founded in Essex.
Britannia have appeared in 100+ television and film productions, including the films Gladiator and Centurion, as well as every episode of television’s Horrible Histories. Visitors can witness combat demonstrations during the day and throughout the event and they can chat to Britannia members, who will be portraying Iron Age Britons and Roman praetorian guards. They may even meet an Iron Age chieftain and some Roman ladies in their finery.
Admission to the museum will be free for the day, and the event is suitable for everyone.
