  • Essex’s Buried Treasure: Highlights from the Portable Antiquities Scheme
On the left a gold Tudor pendant, on the right is a picture of speaker Lori Rogerson

Lori Rogerson is the Portable Antiquities Scheme’s Finds Liaison Officer for Essex and has recorded around 5,000 archaeological objects from the county.

In this talk, she will reveal some of the most remarkable discoveries made by members of the public, from prehistory to the early modern period.

The talk will include not only finds that meet the legal definition of Treasure but also objects that are ‘treasures’ for the insights they offer into Essex’s rich past. Highlights include a Viking sword drawn from the River Colne and a Tudor gold pendant encasing a sacred relic discovered by a four-year-old boy.
