Mr Marconi's magic (KS1)
How did Marconi help save the Titanic? Why did he change the world when he flew a kite?
Children can discover this and more through exciting experiments and practical activities as we explore Marconi’s story and discover his connection with Chelmsford and mobile phones.
In this session, children will:
discover how ‘Marconi’s Magic’ transformed the world as he sent messages without wires
try simple science experiments making electrical circuits to practice sending Morse code
visit the ship’s radio room from the Titanic and hear how the Marconi radio operators helped save the Titanic
get hands-on with maths, exploring shape, length and symmetry and investigating the ‘kite that ‘changed the world’
Stay for the day
Pick up our binoculars and a ‘picture trail sheet’ and set out to explore the whole museum and park. There is plenty to discover in the new museum displays.
Teacher feedback
My class knew who Marconi was, but they have come out of this morning with a much clearer understanding of what radio waves are and how they were used. We all thought it was amazing.
