Changing Childhood (KS2)

Would you rather be a Tudor child or a Victorian child?

Explore childhood through two very different periods of British history. Pupils will investigate how children's lives changed over time as they compare work, education, technology, clothing and play from the Tudor and Victorian eras. Using real objects, replica artefacts and practical activities, they will discover how children helped at home, learned new skills and adapted to a rapidly changing world.

In this session, children will:

  • compare Tudor and Victorian childhoods.

  • explore how work, education and play changed over time.

  • investigate the impact of new technology on everyday life.

  • use museum objects as evidence to learn about the past.

  • develop historical enquiry, observation and discussion skills.

Stay for the day

Pick up our binoculars and a ‘picture trail sheet’ and set out to explore the whole museum and park. There is plenty to discover in the new museum displays.

Teacher feedback

"We found the session perfect for what we are studying in History. The children loved it and because it was so interactive they stayed focused… it was one of our most successful school trips."
